Matsya Purana — The Rite of Donating the ‘Mountain of Ghee’
संयोगाद्घृतमुत्पन्नं यस्मादमृततेजसोः तस्माद्धृतार्चिर्विश्वात्मा प्रीयतामत्र शंकरः //
saṃyogādghṛtamutpannaṃ yasmādamṛtatejasoḥ tasmāddhṛtārcirviśvātmā prīyatāmatra śaṃkaraḥ //
Since ghee (ghṛta) arises from the union of those two radiant, ambrosial essences, therefore may Śaṅkara—whose flame is fed by ghee, the Self of the universe—be pleased here by this offering.
It does not address pralaya directly; it focuses on ritual theology—ghee as a sacred product of “ambrosial” essences and its power to please Śaṅkara through the sacrificial flame.
It supports the householder/kingly duty of sustaining dharma through yajña and offerings: using ghṛta in homa and dedicating the act to Śaṅkara is presented as a legitimate means of propitiation and merit.
Ritually, it highlights ghṛta as the fuel/oblation that strengthens the sacred flame (arciḥ) in homa, framing the offering as a direct act of pleasing Śiva during a rite.
