Matsya Purana — The Ravi-Śayana
संस्थाप्य पात्रे विप्राय सहिरण्यं निवेदयेत् सप्तमे वस्त्रयुग्मं च पारणे त्वधिकं भवेत् //
saṃsthāpya pātre viprāya sahiraṇyaṃ nivedayet saptame vastrayugmaṃ ca pāraṇe tvadhikaṃ bhavet //
Having placed the offering in a suitable vessel, one should present it to a brāhmaṇa together with gold; on the seventh day, a pair of garments should also be given. At the concluding rite of breaking the observance (pāraṇa), the gift should be made in a larger measure.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it focuses on vow-completion (pāraṇa) and the proper protocol of gifting (dāna), especially offerings to a Brahmin with gold and garments.
It outlines householder/royal dharma in supporting learned Brahmins through regulated charity: offer in a proper vessel, add gold, give a pair of clothes on the seventh day, and increase the gift at the vow’s completion—emphasizing discipline, generosity, and correct ritual timing.
The ritual significance is the insistence on a proper pātra (receptacle) and on pāraṇa as a formal closing rite where the donation is made more substantial, indicating that correct procedure and completion are integral to the efficacy of the observance.
