Matsya Purana — The Procedure and Merit of the Śubha-Saptamī Vrata
अनेन विधिना विद्वान् कुर्याद्यः शुभसप्तमीम् तस्य श्रीर्विपुला कीर्तिर् भवेज्जन्मनि जन्मनि //
anena vidhinā vidvān kuryādyaḥ śubhasaptamīm tasya śrīrvipulā kīrtir bhavejjanmani janmani //
A learned person who performs the Śubha-Saptamī observance according to this prescribed method attains prosperity and wide-ranging fame, life after life.
This verse does not discuss pralaya; it teaches the karmic fruit of correctly performing a specific vrata—prosperity and enduring renown across successive births.
It frames vrata-observance as a dharmic duty: a disciplined, rule-following practice that supports social and personal well-being (śrī) and public reputation (kīrti), ideals valued for both householders and rulers.
The significance is ritual-technical: the efficacy depends on performing the Śubha-Saptamī strictly “by this method” (vidhi), emphasizing procedural correctness in Purāṇic worship rather than Vāstu or temple design details.
