Matsya Purana — The Origin of Yajña in Tretā Yuga and the Debate on Animal Sacrifice vs. Non-...
ते तु खिन्ना विवादेन शक्त्या युक्ता महर्षयः संधाय सममिन्द्रेण पप्रच्छुः खचरं वसुम् //
te tu khinnā vivādena śaktyā yuktā maharṣayaḥ saṃdhāya samamindreṇa papracchuḥ khacaraṃ vasum //
But those great sages—wearied by the dispute yet endowed with spiritual power—having conferred together along with Indra, questioned Vasu, who moved through the sky.
This verse does not describe Pralaya directly; it shows a classical Purana method of transmitting knowledge—sages, after a dispute, approach an authoritative knower (Vasu) with Indra to resolve doctrine.
Indirectly, it models dharmic governance of conflict: when debate becomes exhausting, wise parties consult qualified authority and deliberate jointly—an approach applicable to royal adjudication and household decision-making.
The verse signals a transition into technical instruction (often Vastu/ritual knowledge in this section): disputes among experts are settled by questioning an acknowledged specialist, establishing a reliable basis for temple/ritual rules that follow.
