Matsya Purana — The Observance of Ananta-Tritiya
पूर्वं दत्त्वा तु गुरवे शेषानप्यर्चयेद्बुधः उक्तानन्ततृतीयैषा सदानन्तफलप्रदा //
pūrvaṃ dattvā tu gurave śeṣānapyarcayedbudhaḥ uktānantatṛtīyaiṣā sadānantaphalapradā //
After first giving the due offering to the guru, the wise person should then worship the remaining as well. Thus is declared this Ananta-tṛtīyā observance, which ever bestows endless fruit.
This verse does not discuss pralaya; it focuses on ritual order—first honoring the guru, then completing worship—within the Ananta-tṛtīyā observance.
It reflects dharmic discipline: a householder (and by extension a king) should prioritize honoring the guru/teacher and then properly complete the prescribed worship, aiming at lasting merit (ananta-phala).
Ritually, it states the sequence of offerings: give to the guru first, then worship the remaining recipients/deities; it frames Ananta-tṛtīyā as a rite yielding ‘endless’ spiritual results.
