Matsya Purana — The Nakṣatra-Puruṣa Vrata: Worship of Viṣṇu’s Cosmic Body through the Lunar M...
*सूत उवाच अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि दानधर्मानशेषतः व्रतोपवाससंयुक्तान् यथामत्स्योदितानिह //
*sūta uvāca ataḥ paraṃ pravakṣyāmi dānadharmānaśeṣataḥ vratopavāsasaṃyuktān yathāmatsyoditāniha //
Sūta said: “Now, hereafter, I shall expound in full the religious disciplines of giving (dāna)—together with vows (vrata) and fasts (upavāsa)—exactly as they were taught here by Lord Matsya.”
This verse does not describe pralaya directly; it signals a transition to teachings on dāna (charity) combined with vrata (vows) and upavāsa (fasting), attributed to Lord Matsya.
It frames the upcoming section as practical dharma: rules of charitable giving supported by vows and fasting—core disciplines for householders and rulers who must sustain society through righteous generosity.
No Vāstu or iconographic rule is stated in this verse; the ritual emphasis is on vrata and upavāsa as accompanying disciplines that strengthen the merit and correctness of dāna.
