Matsya Purana — Śarkarā-Saptamī Vrata: The Sugar Offering Rite to Savitṛ
अहोरात्रे गते पश्चाद् अष्टम्यां कृतनैत्यकः तत्सर्वं विदुषे तद्वद् ब्राह्मणाय निवेदयेत् //
ahorātre gate paścād aṣṭamyāṃ kṛtanaityakaḥ tatsarvaṃ viduṣe tadvad brāhmaṇāya nivedayet //
When a full day and night have passed, on the Aṣṭamī (eighth lunar day), having completed the prescribed daily rites, one should formally present all of that to a learned Brāhmaṇa in the same proper manner.
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it focuses on ritual timing (after a full day and night) and the correct dedication of offerings during Aṣṭamī observance.
It frames dharmic discipline: after completing one’s daily obligatory rites, one should honor learning and priestly guardianship of ritual by formally offering the vowed items to a qualified, learned Brāhmaṇa.
The ritual significance is procedural: correct timing (after ahorātra), completion of nitya-karmas, and proper nivedana (formal presentation) of the vrata’s offerings to a learned Brāhmaṇa.
