Matsya Purana — Prayaga Mahatmya: Trimurti Presence
prajāpateridaṃ kṣetraṃ prayāgamiti viśrutam etatpuṇyaṃ pavitraṃ vai prayāgaṃ ca yudhiṣṭhira svarājyaṃ kuru rājendra bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito 'nagha //
This sacred tract is Prajāpati’s own kṣetra (holy field), renowned by the name Prayāga. O Yudhiṣṭhira, this Prayāga is truly meritorious and purifying. Therefore, O best of kings, O sinless one, establish your sovereign rule together with your brothers.
It does not describe Pralaya directly; it frames Prayāga as Prajāpati’s sanctified region, emphasizing purification and religious merit rather than cosmic dissolution.
It links spiritual legitimacy with kingship: the king (Yudhiṣṭhira) is urged to establish rightful sovereignty together with his brothers, implying dharmic rule grounded in sacred geography and purity.
Ritual significance is primary: Prayāga is declared exceptionally purifying (pavitra) and merit-bestowing (puṇya), supporting pilgrimage, bathing, and related tirtha rites at the confluence.
