Matsya Purana — Paurava Genealogy
अभिमन्योः परीक्षित्तु पुत्रः परपुरजयः जनमेजयः परीक्षितः पुत्रः परमधार्मिकः //
abhimanyoḥ parīkṣittu putraḥ parapurajayaḥ janamejayaḥ parīkṣitaḥ putraḥ paramadhārmikaḥ //
From Abhimanyu was born Parīkṣit, the conqueror of enemy cities; and Janamejaya—most righteous—was the son of Parīkṣit.
This verse does not address pralaya; it preserves dynastic continuity by naming successors in the Kuru royal line.
By praising Parīkṣit as a conqueror and Janamejaya as “supremely dharmic,” the verse frames ideal kingship as a balance of political protection (victory over hostile powers) and unwavering commitment to dharma.
No vastu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is stated here; the focus is genealogical identification of kings.
