Matsya Purana — Origins of Gods and Beings: Daksha’s Progeny
पृथिवीतलसम्भूतम् अरुन्धत्याम् अजायत संकल्पायास्तु संकल्पो वसुसृष्टिं निबोधत //
pṛthivītalasambhūtam arundhatyām ajāyata saṃkalpāyāstu saṃkalpo vasusṛṣṭiṃ nibodhata //
Born upon the surface of the earth, (he) was born of Arundhatī. And from Saṅkalpā was born Saṅkalpa—now understand the creation and lineage of the Vasus.
This verse is not describing Pralaya; it advances the Sarga (creation) thread by introducing a specific birth-line leading into the Vasus’ origin.
Indirectly, it supports the Purāṇic model where dharma is anchored in lineage and sacred history—householders and kings are urged to preserve genealogies, honor ancestral lines, and uphold social-religious continuity.
No Vāstu or temple-ritual rule is stated in this verse; its function is genealogical—setting up the Vasus’ origin, who later appear in ritual and cosmological classifications.
