Matsya Purana — Navagraha Sacrifice for Planetary Pacification and Prosperity
विनायकस्य चानूनम् इति मन्त्रो बुधैः स्मृतः जातवेदसे सुनवाम दुर्गामन्त्रो ऽयमुच्यते //
vināyakasya cānūnam iti mantro budhaiḥ smṛtaḥ jātavedase sunavāma durgāmantro 'yamucyate //
The wise remember the mantra beginning with “vināyakasya cānūnam …” as a formula connected with Vināyaka (Gaṇeśa). And the chant “jātavedase sunavāma …” is said to be the mantra of Durgā, invoked for protection.
This verse does not describe pralaya directly; it instead preserves a ritual-technical note: specific mantras are assigned to protective deities (Vināyaka and Durgā) for safeguarding and removing impediments.
It supports dharmic life by prescribing practical spiritual tools: a king or householder is advised to employ recognized protective mantras—Vināyaka for removing obstacles and Durgā for protection in dangers—before major undertakings, rites, or governance duties.
Ritually, it functions as a mantra-index: it identifies two well-known invocations (Vināyaka-related and the ‘jātavedase sunavāma’ Durgā mantra) used as rakṣā (protective) recitations, commonly applied at the start of ceremonies, journeys, or consecratory acts.
