Matsya Purana — Navagraha Sacrifice for Planetary Pacification and Prosperity
अग्ने विवस्वदुषस इति सोमसुताय वै बृहस्पते परिदीया रथेनेति गुरोर्मतः //
agne vivasvaduṣasa iti somasutāya vai bṛhaspate paridīyā ratheneti gurormataḥ //
“O Agni, (with) Vivasvat and Uṣas…”—this mantra is prescribed for the son of Soma; and for Bṛhaspati, the mantra “paridīyā rathena” is approved—such is the considered opinion of the Guru (the authoritative teacher).
This verse does not address Pralaya directly; it focuses on mantra-application rules, showing how the Matsya Purana also functions as a practical ritual manual alongside its cosmological narratives.
It supports the householder/kingly duty of maintaining correct rites: selecting the right mantras for specific deities (and associated figures like Somāsuta and Bṛhaspati) is presented as an authoritative, tradition-backed obligation.
Ritually, it is a rule of mantra-prayoga (proper deployment): specific mantra-fragments are assigned to specific divine recipients, emphasizing precision in recitation as sanctioned by guru-mata (authoritative tradition).
