Matsya Purana — Lineage of the Pitṛs
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः कल्पं शिवपुरे वसेत् यस्तु मत्परमं कालं करोत्येतेषु मानवः //
sarvapāpavinirmuktaḥ kalpaṃ śivapure vaset yastu matparamaṃ kālaṃ karotyeteṣu mānavaḥ //
Freed from all sins, that human who—during these (prescribed observances)—spends his time with Me as his highest refuge shall dwell for a full kalpa in Śiva’s city.
It does not describe pralaya directly; instead, it teaches the post-mortem fruit of devotion and observance—sinlessness and residence in Śiva’s abode for a kalpa.
It frames dharmic living in terms of regulated observances (“eteṣu”) and single-pointed devotion (“matparama”), implying that householders and rulers gain purification and enduring merit by dedicating their time to disciplined worship rather than mere ritual formality.
The verse is primarily ritual-devotional, not architectural; its key ritual takeaway is that observances performed with wholehearted devotion lead to exceptional merit—symbolized as dwelling in “Śivapura.”
