Matsya Purana — Hiranyakashipu’s Boons
*देवा ऊचुः नारायण महाभाग देवास्त्वां शरणं गताः त्रायस्व जहि दैत्येन्द्रं हिरण्यकशिपुं प्रभो //
*devā ūcuḥ nārāyaṇa mahābhāga devāstvāṃ śaraṇaṃ gatāḥ trāyasva jahi daityendraṃ hiraṇyakaśipuṃ prabho //
The gods said: “O Nārāyaṇa, most fortunate Lord! We gods have come to You for refuge. Protect us, O Master—slay Hiraṇyakaśipu, the king of the Daityas.”
This verse does not address pralaya or cosmology; it shows the devas’ act of śaraṇāgati—seeking divine protection from a tyrannical asura.
Indirectly, it upholds the ethical ideal that a protector (king or guardian) must restrain oppressors; it also models humility—seeking rightful refuge when overwhelmed by adharma.
No Vāstu or temple-building rule is stated here; the key ritual-theological point is prayerful surrender to Nārāyaṇa for protection.
