Matsya Purana — Genealogy of the Śūra–Vasudeva
अथ सख्येन वृद्धे ऽसौ कुन्तिभोजे सुतां ददौ एवं कुन्ती समाख्याता वसुदेवस्वसा पृथा //
atha sakhyena vṛddhe 'sau kuntibhoje sutāṃ dadau evaṃ kuntī samākhyātā vasudevasvasā pṛthā //
Then, out of friendship, that aged man gave his daughter to Kuntibhoja; thus she became known as Kuntī—Pṛthā, the sister of Vasudeva.
This verse does not discuss pralaya; it belongs to a dynastic narrative, identifying Kuntī (Pṛthā) and her relation to Vasudeva and Kuntibhoja.
Indirectly, it reflects royal and familial obligations—alliances and guardianship formed through friendship and the giving of a daughter—typical of Purāṇic discussions of lineage continuity and social dharma.
No Vāstu, temple-building, iconographic, or ritual procedure is stated in this verse; it is purely genealogical and relational (naming and kinship).
