Matsya Purana — Genealogy of Kaśyapa: Ādityas
सम्पातिश् च जटायुश्च अरुणस्य सुताव् उभौ सम्पातिपुत्रो बभ्रुश्च शीघ्रगश्चापि विश्रुतः //
sampātiś ca jaṭāyuśca aruṇasya sutāv ubhau sampātiputro babhruśca śīghragaścāpi viśrutaḥ //
Sampāti and Jaṭāyu were both sons of Aruṇa. Sampāti’s son was Babhru; Śīghraga too is renowned.
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it functions as a genealogical notice, listing Aruṇa’s sons (Sampāti and Jaṭāyu) and naming Sampāti’s descendants.
Indirectly, it supports the Purāṇic aim of preserving lineage memory (vaṃśa-smṛti). Such genealogies underpin dharmic social order by situating kings, sages, and renowned beings within recognized family lines.
No Vāstu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is stated in this verse; it is purely a lineage identification of named figures.
