Matsya Purana — Genealogy and Classification of Sacred Fires
इत्येते पावकस्याग्नेर् द्विजैः पुत्राः प्रकीर्तिताः ततः सुतास्तु सौवीर्याद् गन्धर्वैरसुरैर् हृताः //
ityete pāvakasyāgner dvijaiḥ putrāḥ prakīrtitāḥ tataḥ sutāstu sauvīryād gandharvairasurair hṛtāḥ //
Thus these sons of Agni Pāvaka were proclaimed by the learned twice-born. Thereafter, however, those sons—because of their notable prowess—were carried off by the Gandharvas and the Asuras.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it belongs to a lineage-style narration, reporting Agni Pāvaka’s sons and a later episode where they are taken by Gandharvas and Asuras.
Indirectly, it reinforces the Purāṇic emphasis on preserving genealogical memory and social transmission through the dvijas; such accounts support dharma by grounding identity, succession, and tradition.
No Vāstu or temple-architecture rule appears here; the technical focus is genealogical and mythic (Agni’s offspring and their abduction by celestial and anti-celestial beings).
