Matsya Purana — Dynastic Genealogies: Paurava–Anu Lines
उवाच ममता तं तु देवरं वरवर्णिनी अन्तर्वत्न्यस्मि ते भ्रातुर् ज्येष्ठस्य तु विरम्यताम् //
uvāca mamatā taṃ tu devaraṃ varavarṇinī antarvatnyasmi te bhrātur jyeṣṭhasya tu viramyatām //
Mamatā, fair-complexioned, said to her brother-in-law: “I am pregnant by your elder brother; therefore desist.”
This verse does not address Pralaya; it is a narrative moment focused on personal conduct and lineage propriety within a genealogy episode.
It reinforces household dharma: respecting marital boundaries, kinship restraints (especially regarding a brother’s wife), and protecting legitimate lineage—values that also underpin royal legitimacy and social order in Purāṇic ethics.
No Vastu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is mentioned; the verse is ethical and genealogical rather than architectural.
