Matsya Purana — Dynastic Genealogies: Paurava–Anu Lines
*सूत उवाच अथोशिज इति ख्यात आसीद्विद्वानृषिः पुरा पत्नी वै ममता नाम बभूवास्य महात्मनः //
*sūta uvāca athośija iti khyāta āsīdvidvānṛṣiḥ purā patnī vai mamatā nāma babhūvāsya mahātmanaḥ //
Sūta said: In ancient times there was a learned sage renowned by the name Athośija; and the wife of that great-souled one was indeed called Mamatā.
This verse does not describe Pralaya; it introduces a sage (Athośija) and names his wife (Mamatā) as part of a genealogical/lineage narration.
Indirectly, it supports the Purāṇic model of dharma through lineage memory: naming sages and their spouses emphasizes household order (gṛhastha-āśrama) and the continuity of righteous families that underpin kingship and social duty.
No Vāstu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is specified in this verse; its focus is on identifying persons within a rishi genealogy.
