Matsya Purana — Dynastic Genealogies: Paurava–Anu Lines
karṇasya vṛṣasenastu pṛthusenastathātmajaḥ ete 'ṅgasyātmajāḥ sarve rājānaḥ kīrtitā mayā vistareṇānupūrvyācca pūrostu śṛṇuta dvijāḥ //
Karna’s son was Vṛṣasena, and another son was Pṛthusena. Thus, all these kings—descendants of Aṅga—have been recounted by me in detail and in due order. Now, O twice-born ones, listen also to the lineage of Pūru.
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it is a genealogical transition verse summarizing Aṅga’s descendants and introducing the forthcoming account of Pūru’s lineage.
Indirectly, it frames kingship as a remembered lineage: the Purana preserves royal succession ‘in due order,’ reinforcing the ideal that rulers are accountable to dharma through continuity, reputation, and ancestral tradition.
No Vastu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is mentioned in this verse; its function is cataloguing dynastic names and signaling a shift to the Pūru genealogy.
