Matsya Purana — Devayānī and Śarmiṣṭhā’s Quarrel
सर्व एव समागम्य शतक्रतुमथाब्रुवन् कालस्त्वद्विक्रमस्याद्य जहि शत्रून्पुरंदर //
sarva eva samāgamya śatakratumathābruvan kālastvadvikramasyādya jahi śatrūnpuraṃdara //
Then all assembled and said to Śatakratu (Indra): “Now is the time for your valor—slay the enemies, O Purandara!”
This verse does not describe Pralaya; it is a martial exhortation within a Deva-centered narrative, focusing on timely action and the protection of cosmic order.
It reflects kṣātra-dharma: when the moment demands, a protector must act decisively against aggressors to uphold order—an ethical parallel to a king’s duty to defend subjects and restrain adharma.
No Vāstu or temple-building rule is stated here; the only technical epithet is ‘Śatakratu’ (linked to sacrifice), used as a title for Indra rather than a procedural ritual instruction.
