Matsya Purana — Conclusion of the Prayaga Mahatmya: Kingship Restored
यस्त्विदं कल्य उत्थाय माहात्म्यं पठते नरः प्रयागं स्मरते नित्यं स याति परमं पदम् मुच्यते सर्वपापेभ्यो रुद्रलोकं स गच्छति //
yastvidaṃ kalya utthāya māhātmyaṃ paṭhate naraḥ prayāgaṃ smarate nityaṃ sa yāti paramaṃ padam mucyate sarvapāpebhyo rudralokaṃ sa gacchati //
That man who rises at dawn and recites this sacred eulogy, and who ever remembers Prayāga, attains the supreme state; he is freed from all sins and goes to Rudra’s world.
This verse does not address pralaya; it teaches soteriology through tīrtha-devotion—recitation of a Mahātmya and constant remembrance of Prayāga as a means to purification and higher post-mortem attainment.
It recommends a daily discipline suitable for householders and rulers alike: rising at dawn, reciting sacred texts, and keeping a holy place in remembrance—actions framed as dharmic conduct that purifies sin and supports spiritual progress.
The ritual takeaway is the timing and practice: dawn (prātaḥ-kāla) recitation of the Mahātmya and continual smaraṇa (remembrance) of Prayāga are presented as efficacious observances; no Vāstu or temple-building rule is stated in this verse.
