Matsya Purana — Agastya’s Origin
*नारद उवाच कथमर्घप्रदानं तु कर्तव्यं तस्य वै विभो विधानं यदगस्त्यस्य पूजने तद्वदस्व मे //
*nārada uvāca kathamarghapradānaṃ tu kartavyaṃ tasya vai vibho vidhānaṃ yadagastyasya pūjane tadvadasva me //
Nārada said: “O Lord, how indeed is the offering of arghya to be performed? Please tell me the proper procedure for it, as it is done in the worship of Agastya.”
This verse does not discuss pralaya directly; it focuses on ritual law (vidhāna) for offering arghya within a specific worship context.
It frames worship as a rule-governed duty: a householder (and by extension a king supporting dharma) should perform offerings like arghya according to prescribed procedure rather than improvisation.
The ritual significance is the request for the correct arghya-pradāna method, specifically aligned with Agastya-pūjā—highlighting standardized pūjā-vidhi in the Matsya Purana.
