Matsya Purana — Account of the Manvantaras: Manus
अश्वत्थामा शरद्वांश्च कौशिको गालवस्तथा शतानन्दः काश्यपश्च रामश्च ऋषयः स्मृताः //
aśvatthāmā śaradvāṃśca kauśiko gālavastathā śatānandaḥ kāśyapaśca rāmaśca ṛṣayaḥ smṛtāḥ //
Aśvatthāmā, Śaradvān, Kauśika, and likewise Gālava; Śatānanda, Kāśyapa, and Rāma—these are remembered in the tradition as revered seers (ṛṣis).
This verse does not describe pralaya or cosmology; it preserves a traditional catalogue of revered ṛṣis, emphasizing continuity of sacred knowledge across ages.
Indirectly, it supports the dharmic ideal that kings and householders should honor and support learned sages, since such ṛṣis are portrayed as authoritative transmitters of dharma and sacred tradition.
No explicit Vāstu or temple-ritual rule appears in this verse; its ritual value is chiefly in identifying authoritative sage names often invoked in lineage-remembrance (smaraṇa) and tradition-citation.
