Uttarā-Pratigrahaṇa and Abhimanyu–Uttarā Vivāha

Virāṭa-parva, Adhyāya 67

Vaiśampāyana said: “Let those cowherds, dispatched by you, go quickly to the city and convey the welcome news. Let them publicly proclaim your victory. For the men are hungry, thirsty, and exhausted—bewildered in a foreign place.”

Educational Q&A

Promptly sharing truthful, auspicious news after a crisis is part of responsible leadership: it restores public confidence and order, while compassionately recognizing the fatigue and distress of those affected by conflict and displacement.

After the clash connected with the cattle-raid episode, messengers (cowherds) are instructed to hurry to the city and announce the victory, while the defeated side’s men are described as hungry, thirsty, exhausted, and mentally shaken in unfamiliar surroundings.
