Vaiśampāyana said: “O prince, look—your herds have been brought back in full, together with the cowherds. O mighty-armed hero, the men here are shaken in mind, worn out by hunger and thirst and by fatigue, and distressed as they find themselves in a foreign land.”

Educational Q&A

Even amid conflict, the narrative highlights responsible protection and restoration: the rightful recovery of property (the herds) and compassion for those weakened by fear, hunger, thirst, and displacement—conditions that test steadiness of mind and dharmic conduct.

The speaker reports to the hero-prince that the cattle/herds have been fully brought back along with the cowherds. The accompanying men are described as mentally shaken and physically exhausted—hungry, thirsty, and fatigued—made more anxious by being in a foreign place.
