Bhīṣma–Arjuna Encounter Framed Cosmically
bhavatāṁ hi kṛtāstratvaṁ yathāditye prabhā tathā | yathā candramaso lakṣmīḥ sarvathā nāpakṛṣyate ||
Bhīṣma said: “Your mastery of weapons is like the sun’s radiance; and like the moon’s beauty, it is never diminished in any way. In the same manner, your learned skill in the science of arms remains wholly intact.”
True competence—especially in a warrior’s discipline—should be steady and undiminished; Bhīṣma uses the sun and moon as ethical images of unwavering excellence and enduring capability.
Bhīṣma addresses the warriors before battle, affirming that their expertise in weapons has not declined, comparing it to the ever-present radiance of the sun and the constant beauty of the moon.
