Agastya’s Encounter with Ilvala and Vātāpi; Dāna, Progeny, and the Renown of Agastya-Āśrama

tato bahutithe kāle lopāmudrāṃ viśāmpate | tapasā dyotitāṃ snātāṃ dadarśa bhagavān ṛṣiḥ ||

After a long time had passed in this manner, O lord of the people, the venerable sage beheld Lopāmudrā, radiant with the splendor born of austerity, just returned from her ritual bath. Seeing her purity, self-restraint, and disciplined service, and pleased by her grace and beauty, the sage drew her near with the intention of conjugal union.
