Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
तत्र वेदेषु नष्टेषु मुनेरड्धिरस: सुतः । ऋषीणामुत्तरीयेषु सूपविष्टो यथासुखम्,एक समय उन ऋषियोंको सारा वेद भूल गया। इस प्रकार वेदोंके नष्ट होने (भूल जाने)-पर अंगिरा मुनिका पुत्र ऋषियोंके उत्तरीय वस्त्रों (चादरों)-में छिपकर सुखपूर्वक बैठ गया (और विधिपूर्वक 3कारका उच्चारण करने लगा)
tatra vedeṣu naṣṭeṣu muner arddhirasaḥ sutaḥ | ṛṣīṇām uttarīyeṣu sūpaviṣṭo yathāsukham ||
Then, when the Vedas had been lost (forgotten), the son of the sage Arddhirasa sat down at ease, concealed among the upper garments of the seers.
पुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse highlights that forgetting or neglecting sacred learning (the Vedas) leads to vulnerability and moral disorder; safeguarding knowledge and remaining attentive is presented as part of dharma.
Pulastya describes a moment when the Vedas are forgotten, and the son of the sage Arddhirasa sits comfortably while hiding among the seers’ upper garments, suggesting a covert act taking advantage of the lapse.
