Tīrtha-yātrā: Phalaśruti and Sacred Geography from Lohitya to Prayāga
Pulastya’s Instruction
ततो गच्छेत राजेन्द्र ब्रह्मण: स्थानमुत्तमम् । ब्रह्मोदुम्बरमित्येव प्रकाशं भुवि भारत,भरतवंशी राजेन्द्र! तदनन्तर ब्रह्माजीके उत्तम स्थानमें जाय, जो इस पृथ्वीपर ब्रह्मोदुम्बरतीर्थके नामसे प्रसिद्ध है
tato gacchet rājendra brahmaṇaḥ sthānam uttamam | brahmodumbaram ity eva prakāśaṃ bhuvi bhārata ||
Then, O best of kings, one should proceed to the supreme abode of Brahmā. O Bhārata, it is renowned upon the earth by the name ‘Brahmodumbara’—a sacred place whose very fame directs the righteous traveler onward, step by step, along the path of pilgrimage and disciplined conduct.
घुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse frames pilgrimage as a dharmic discipline: one is enjoined to proceed to a revered sacred site associated with Brahmā, emphasizing reverence for holy places and the ethical ideal of purposeful, guided movement toward what is ‘uttama’ (highest).
The speaker gives directions within a sequence of tīrthas, instructing the king to go next to Brahmā’s supreme abode, a place on earth famous as Brahmodumbara.
