Tīrtha-yātrā: Phalaśruti and Sacred Geography from Lohitya to Prayāga
Pulastya’s Instruction
ततो गच्छेत राजेन्द्र तीर्थ मेध्यं यथाक्रमम् । सरस्वत्यरुणायाश्व संगमं लोकविश्रुतम्,राजेन्द्र! तदनन्तर क्रमश: लोकविख्यात सरस्वती-अरुणासंगम नामक पवित्र तीर्थकी यात्रा करे
tato gacchet rājendra tīrtha medhyaṃ yathākramam | sarasvaty aruṇāyāś ca saṅgamaṃ lokaviśrutam ||
Then, O best of kings, you should proceed in due order to the purifying sacred fords, and thereafter to the world-renowned confluence of the Sarasvatī and the Aruṇā.
घुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse teaches that spiritual purification is pursued through orderly, disciplined practice: one should visit sanctifying tīrthas step by step, honoring established sequence and reverence for sacred places, which supports righteous conduct (dharma), especially for a ruler.
The speaker instructs the king to continue a pilgrimage itinerary: after visiting purifying sacred fords in proper order, he is directed to go to the famous confluence of the Sarasvatī and Aruṇā rivers, a renowned tīrtha.
