ऋतुपर्णस्य विदर्भयात्रा-निश्चयः तथा बाहुकस्य हयपरिक्षा (Ṛtuparṇa’s resolve to go to Vidarbha and Bāhuka’s examination of horses)
ततो भीम॑ महाराजं भार्या वचनमब्रवीत् । दमयन्ती तव सुता भर्तारमनुशोचति,तदनन्तर महाराज भीमसे उनकी पत्नीने कहा--'प्राणनाथ! आपकी पुत्री दमयन्ती अपने पतिके लिये निरन्तर शोकमें डूबी रहती है
tato bhīmaṃ mahārājaṃ bhāryā vacanam abravīt | damayantī tava sutā bhartāram anuśocati ||
Then Bhīma’s wife addressed King Bhīma: “O lord, your daughter Damayantī remains continually immersed in grief for her husband.”
युदेव उवाच
The verse highlights steadfast marital devotion and the ethical weight of family responsibility: Damayantī’s unwavering concern for her husband becomes a moral claim upon her parents and kingly household to respond with compassion and appropriate action.
In the Nala–Damayantī episode, Bhīma’s wife informs King Bhīma that their daughter Damayantī is continually grieving for her husband, signaling the depth of her distress and prompting the royal family to consider how to address her suffering and the situation of her absent spouse.
