Nala as Bāhuka enters Ṛtuparṇa’s city
पूजां चास्या यथान्यायं कृत्वा तत्र तपोधना: । आस्यतामित्यथोचुस्ते ब्रूहि कि करवामहे,तदनन्तर वहाँ दमयन्तीका यथोचित आदर-सत्कार करके उन तपोधनोंने कहा--'शुभे! बैठो, बताओ, हम तुम्हारा कौन-सा कार्य सिद्ध करें"
pūjāṃ cāsyā yathānyāyaṃ kṛtvā tatra tapodhanāḥ | āsyatām ity athocus te brūhi kiṃ karavāmahe ||
Having offered her due honor in accordance with proper custom, the ascetics rich in austerity said to her there: “Auspicious lady, be seated. Tell us—what can we do to accomplish your purpose?”
बृहृदश्च उवाच
The verse highlights dharma in social conduct: one should first offer fitting respect and hospitality, then ask clearly how to help—service guided by propriety, humility, and compassionate intent.
After properly honoring Damayantī, the ascetics invite her to sit and ask what task they can accomplish for her, signaling their readiness to assist once her need is known.
