Vaiśampāyana said: “It is as though the sun’s radiance could depart, and likewise the moon’s beauty and light could be taken away. Seeing this distress of yours, people have come to a firm conclusion that even what seems impossible can occur.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores how extraordinary suffering can make even the seemingly impossible appear possible, reminding listeners of the fragility of worldly stability and the need for steadiness in dharma amid reversals.
Vaiśampāyana comments on the grievous plight of the addressed person(s): observers, seeing such unexpected calamity, conclude that even the sun could lose its radiance and the moon its light—an image used to convey the shock and magnitude of the distress.
