Vaiśampāyana said: Thus, in the holy Mahābhārata—Vyāsa’s one-hundred-thousand-verse compendium—within the Vana Parva, in the Āraṇeya section, the chapter concerning counsel for living incognito is concluded: the three-hundred-and-fifteenth chapter (i.e., the three-hundred-and-thirtieth overall count as indicated in some recensions).
वैशम्पायन उवाच
This is a colophon marking the close of a chapter; its implied ethical focus is that prudent counsel and disciplined secrecy are legitimate supports of dharma when one must endure exile and protect a rightful cause without provoking premature conflict.
The narrator’s closing formula announces that the section dealing with deliberations about living incognito (ajñātavāsa) has ended within the Vana Parva’s Āraṇeya portion, formally concluding the chapter.
