Educational Q&A

Honor in this world and lasting fame in heaven are considered proper only when pursued while protecting one’s life and body; dharma does not praise needless self-harm or reckless sacrifice divorced from wise self-preservation.

Sūrya speaks to a heroic addressee, offering counsel that frames ethical action: one should aim for glory and merit, but not by abandoning the basic duty of preserving one’s life; true renown is compatible with prudent conduct.
