Ajñātavāsa-saṅkalpaḥ — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Resolve and Dhaumya’s Exempla on Concealment
सौद्दात् सर्वभूतानां विश्वासो नाम जायते । तस्मात् सत्सु विशेषेण विश्वासं कुरुते जन:,सौहार्दसे ही समस्त प्राणियोंका एक-दूसरेके प्रति विश्वास उत्पन्न होता है। संतोंमें सौहार्द होनेके कारण ही सब लोग उनपर अधिक विश्वास करते हैं
sauddāt sarvabhūtānāṃ viśvāso nāma jāyate | tasmāt satsu viśeṣeṇa viśvāsaṃ kurute janaḥ ||
From goodwill and cordiality there arises what is called trust among all living beings. Therefore people place trust—especially and more firmly—in the virtuous, because harmony and benevolence are found in them.
यम उवाच
Trust in society is generated by cordiality and goodwill; since the virtuous naturally embody such harmony, people rightly place greater confidence in them.
Yama is instructing the listener on dharmic social conduct, explaining why trust arises among beings and why saints and the righteous become especially trusted.
