Yakṣa-saṃvāda: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Interrogation at the Guarded Water
evaṁ tatrāśrame teṣāṁ tadā nivasatāṁ satām | kālas tapasyatāṁ kaścid apākrāmat bhārata, bharatanandana ||
O Bhārata, O joy of the Bharata line, as those virtuous ones dwelt in that hermitage and practiced austerities with discipline, some time passed by there in the course of their restrained life.
इुमत्सेन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical value of steady discipline: when the virtuous live in an āśrama and practice tapas, time naturally advances and ripens outcomes. It implies patience, restraint, and trust in dharmic effort rather than impulsive action.
Dyumatsena states that while the group stayed in the hermitage and engaged in austerities, a certain period of time passed. It functions as a narrative transition marking the passage of time during ascetic residence.
