Yakṣa-saṃvāda: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Interrogation at the Guarded Water

anurūpo hi yuktaś ca tvaṃ mamāhaṃ tavāpi ca | snuṣāṃ pratīccha me kanyāṃ bhāryayā satyavataḥ sataḥ ||

Humat-sena said: “You are indeed well-suited and worthy for me, and I too am worthy of you. Therefore accept my daughter as your daughter-in-law—let her be the wife of my noble son Satyavān.”

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes propriety and dharmic suitability in marriage: a union is endorsed when both parties are deemed worthy and well-matched, and the bride is accepted into the family as a daughter-in-law in a socially and ethically sanctioned manner.

Humat-sena formally proposes (or confirms) a marriage alliance by asking the other party to accept his daughter as the wife of his virtuous son Satyavān, thereby establishing her status as daughter-in-law within the receiving household.
