Adhiratha-Rādhā Discover the Casket; Vasuṣeṇa (Karṇa) is Adopted and Formed
ततस्तं वैष्णवे शूंर नक्षत्रेडभिमते5हनि । वसिष्ठो वामदेवश्व॒ सहितावभ्यषिज्चताम्,तत्पश्चात् विष्णुदेवतासम्बन्धी श्रवण नक्षत्रका पुण्य दिवस आनेपर वसिष्ठ और वामदेव दोनों ऋषियोंने मिलकर शूरशिरोमणि भगवान् रामका राज्याभिषेक किया
tatas taṃ vaiṣṇave śūra nakṣatre ’bhimate ’hani | vasiṣṭho vāmadevaś ca sahitāv abhyasiñcatām ||
Then, on an auspicious day dear to them, when the Vaiṣṇava constellation (Śravaṇa) was in ascendance, the two sages Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva together performed the royal consecration of the heroic Lord Rāma. The episode underscores that rightful sovereignty is to be established through sacred timing, Vedic sanction, and the guidance of realized teachers, so that kingship becomes a dharmic trust rather than mere power.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Legitimate rule is grounded in dharma: it is affirmed through sacred rites, auspicious timing, and the sanction of wise teachers, reminding that political authority should serve righteousness rather than personal ambition.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that on an auspicious Vaiṣṇava day associated with the Śravaṇa nakṣatra, the sages Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva jointly perform Rāma’s royal consecration (abhiṣeka), formally installing him as king.
