Adhyāya 290: Kuntī’s Mantra-Parīkṣā and the Appearance of Sūrya (कुन्ती–सूर्यसंवादः)

Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then he sought to harass Lakṣmaṇa by showering him with javelins hurled at tremendous speed. But Saumitrī (Lakṣmaṇa), with razor-sharp arrows, cut down every one of those javelins as they came near.
The verse highlights steadiness and disciplined competence: even when attacked with force, one should respond with alert restraint and precise action—using strength to neutralize harm rather than to indulge anger.
An opponent launches a rapid barrage of javelins to trouble Lakṣmaṇa, but Lakṣmaṇa (Saumitrī) intercepts them mid-approach, cutting them down with sharp arrows before they can strike.
