Sāvitrī’s Dialogue with Yama and the Restoration of Satyavān
मैन्दश्न द्विविदश्चापि हनूमांश्वानिलात्मज: । जाम्बवानृक्षराजश्च सुग्रीवसचिवा: स्थिता:,“इनके सिवा, मैन्द, द्विविद, वायुपुत्र हनुमान् तथा ऋक्षराज जाम्बवानू--ये सुग्रीवके चार मन्त्री हैं
Maindaś ca Dvividaś cāpi Hanūmāṁś cānila-ātmajaḥ | Jāmbavān ṛkṣa-rājaś ca Sugrīva-sacivāḥ sthitāḥ ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: “Mainda and Dvivida, Hanūmān—the son of the Wind-god—and Jāmbavān, the king of bears: these stand as Sugrīva’s trusted ministers.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Effective and righteous rule depends on trustworthy, capable advisors. The verse underscores the dharmic ideal that loyalty, wisdom, and competence in counsel sustain a leader’s mission.
Mārkaṇḍeya identifies key allies—Mainda, Dvivida, Hanumān, and Jāmbavān—as Sugrīva’s ministers, situating them as the inner circle supporting the Vānara king in the broader Rāma-related narrative.
