Sāvitrī’s Dialogue with Yama and the Restoration of Satyavān

ity uktvā samayaṃ kṛtvā viśvāsya ca parasparam | abhyetya sarve kiṣkindhāṃ tasthur yuddhābhikāṅkṣiṇaḥ ||

Having spoken thus, they made a mutual compact and, reassuring one another in trust, all of them came to Kiṣkindhā. There they stood firm, eager for battle.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical force of a pledged agreement (samaya) and the social necessity of mutual trust (viśvāsa). Collective action—especially in conflict—rests on keeping one’s word and sustaining confidence among allies.

After making a pact and reassuring each other, the group proceeds to Kiṣkindhā and takes a firm stand there, ready and eager to engage in battle.
