Vaiśampāyana said: “You are fit for happiness, accustomed to comfort, and not deserving of suffering. Yet that wicked, sinful man—bringing upon you such misery—rejoices together with his circle of friends.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse condemns the ethical perversity of taking joy in another’s undeserved suffering, portraying such delight as a mark of sin (pāpa) and a corrupted mind (durātmā).
The narrator (Vaiśampāyana) describes a situation where a virtuous or undeserving person is forced into misery, while the wrongdoer who caused it celebrates with his companions.
