Rāma at Pampā; alliance with Sugrīva; Vālin’s fall; Sītā’s guarded captivity

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Hearing this, the lotus-eyed Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa spoke again to Draupadī: “Kṛṣṇā! I am distressed by hunger and fatigue, and you can still laugh? This is no time for jesting. Go quickly—bring the cooking pot and show it to me.” Thus insisting, the Lord had Draupadī bring the pot. A tiny bit of vegetable greens was stuck to its neck. Seeing it, Śrī Kṛṣṇa took it and ate it, and said to Draupadī: “By this morsel of greens…” Having spoken thus, the all-pervading Lord—enjoyer of sacrifices, the Self of the universe—addressed Sahadeva: “Summon the sages; tell them to come quickly for their meal.” Then the mighty-armed Kṛṣṇa, remover of distress, said to Sahadeva: “Go at once and invite the sages to eat.”

Educational Q&A

Dharma of hospitality is upheld not merely by material abundance but by sincere effort and divine support. Even a seemingly insignificant remnant, when offered and accepted by the Lord, becomes sufficient to remove a community’s distress—showing that grace can transform scarcity into protection.

Kṛṣṇa, seeing Draupadī’s predicament about feeding visiting sages, insists on seeing the cooking pot. Finding a tiny bit of greens stuck to it, he eats it and then instructs Sahadeva to invite the sages to dine, implying that the crisis of food and the impending danger are being averted through his act.
