The Engagement with Citrasena and the Gandharvas
Vaiśampāyana uvāca | anupraśnaḥ saṃśayo vā naitat tvayy upapadyate | tathā hāpetā buddhyā tvaṃ kṛṣṇasya mahiṣī priyā ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “Such questioning—or any doubt that suspects a husband’s affection—does not befit you. You are not lacking in discernment; indeed, you are Kṛṣṇa’s beloved queen. Therefore it is not right for a virtuous woman like you to entertain such suspicion.”
The verse teaches that groundless suspicion—especially regarding a spouse’s affection—is ethically improper for one who is wise and committed to dharma; discernment and trust should guide conduct.
Vaiśampāyana addresses a queen associated with Kṛṣṇa, correcting her line of questioning and reminding her of her status as Kṛṣṇa’s beloved chief consort, implying that such doubts are inconsistent with her virtue and understanding.
