उमा चैव महाभागा देवाश्व समहर्षय: । पृथ्वी हिलने लगी। उसमें गड़गड़ाहट पैदा हो गयी। सारा जगत्‌ अन्धकारमें मग्न-सा जान पड़ता था। उस समय यह दारुण उत्पात देखकर भगवान्‌ शंकर, महाभागा उमा, देवगण तथा महर्षिगण क्षुब्ध हो उठे ।। ततस्तेषु प्रमूढेषु पर्वताम्बुदसंनिभम्‌

Translation

Then the blessed Umā, the gods, and the great ṛṣis were all shaken. The earth began to tremble and a thunderous roar arose; the whole world seemed sunk in darkness. At that time, beholding that dreadful upheaval, Lord Śaṅkara, the fortunate Umā, the hosts of gods, and the great sages were thrown into turmoil.
