Shloka 20

Skanda–Mātṛgaṇa-janma: Kumārakāḥ, Kanyāgaṇāḥ, and the Vīrāṣṭaka (स्कन्द-मातृगण-सम्भवः)

अनिष्टं चान्वितं पश्यंस्तथा क्षिप्रं विरज्यते । ततकश्न प्रतिकुर्वन्ति यदि पश्यन्त्युपक्रमात्‌,यदि किसी कार्यमें अनिष्टका संयोग दिखायी देता है तो मनुष्य शीघ्र ही उससे निवृत्त हो जाता है। और यदि आरम्भ होनेसे पहले ही उस अनिष्टका पता लग जाता है तो लोग उसके प्रतीकारका उपाय करने लगते हैं

aniṣṭaṃ cānvitaṃ paśyaṃs tathā kṣipraṃ virajyate | tatakāśna pratikurvanti yadi paśyanty upakramāt ||

The hunter said: “When a person sees that an undertaking is attended by an inauspicious element, he quickly withdraws from it. And if that inauspiciousness is detected even before the work is begun, people set about applying a remedy and countermeasure from the very outset.”
