Educational Q&A

Ethical life is grounded in self-restraint: disciplined diet, regulated sexuality, and controlled habits can be practiced even by a householder, regardless of social station.

The hunter addresses a brahmin and describes his personal vows—abstaining from meat, approaching his wife only in the proper season, fasting by day, and eating only at night—to illustrate his commitment to dharma.
