ब्राह्मणानुयात्रा—शौनकोपदेशः
Brāhmaṇas Follow into Exile and Śaunaka’s Instruction
वैशम्पायन उवाच इत्युक्त्वा स नृप: शोचन् निषसाद महीतले । तमध्यात्मरतो विद्वान् शौनको नाम वै द्विज:,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--राजन्! इतना कहकर धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर शोकमग्न हो चुपचाप पृथ्वीपर बैठ गये। उस समय अध्यात्मविषयमें रत अर्थात् परमात्म-चिन्तनमें तत्पर विद्वान ब्राह्मण शौनकने, जो कर्मयोग और सांख्ययोग--दोनों ही निष्ठाओंके विचारमें प्रवीण थे, राजासे इस प्रकार कहा--
vaiśampāyana uvāca | ity uktvā sa nṛpaḥ śocan niṣasāda mahītale | tam adhyātma-rato vidvān śaunako nāma vai dvijaḥ rājānam idam abravīt |
Vaiśampāyana said: Having spoken thus, the king, overcome with grief, sat down silently upon the ground. Then the learned twice-born Śaunaka—devoted to inner spiritual contemplation and skilled in discerning both the discipline of action and the discipline of knowledge—addressed the king with these words.
